Preparing for Professional Certification
NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME
Preparing for Professional Certification Correspondence Course was designed for students who are interested in attaining certification from a professional organization such as the Professional level AFA exam, or NCGR Level 1-3 exam.
Most students taking this course have already taken my other courses and are already prepared to meet most of the requirements of the certification exams. This supplementary course has been designed to fill in the gaps…particularly the more extensive math requirements that were not covered in Course II:
Constructing a Horoscope, and Course VI: Transits and Progressions. If you have not taken these courses, you should already know the basics of chart construction before taking this course. You need to know:
How to use an Ephemeris and Tables of Houses
How to calculate natal planets to the nearest degree and minute
How to calculate house cusps to within one minute of accuracy
How to find the ACD and locate secondary progressions for that date
How to calculate progressions to a date within the year, other than the ACD
 How to find aspects
Please don't be intimated by the math! There is a lot of it, but it's EASY. No algebra, calculus or trig. It's all basic addition, subtraction and a little multiplication or division.
From an interpretive perspective, you should have a solid understanding of natal astrology, be comfortable interpreting transits and progressions, and have a general knowledge of chart synastry (chart comparison), Solar Return charts, horary charts, electional charts, etc. All of these areas have been covered in the Astrology the Cosmic Pattern Correspondence Course series. If you have not taken these courses, I recommend that you read about their content and assess your overall skills in the areas outlined in the Course flyer.
Preparing for Professional Certification Correspondence Course is largely designed around the more technical mathematical requirements of certification testing. For example, you will learn to interpolate house cusps to the exact minute of accuracy (not just degree), calculate declinations of planets and angles in the natal and progressed chart, progress the chart to any date during any given year (not just the ACD). The course also provides a sample student and professional level test, so you'll know what to expect when you take the plunge!
What will you need to work with this course? An Ephemeris, preferably Neil Michelsen's 100-year midnight edition. A Tables of Houses, preferably the American Book of Tables, Placidus system.
Because the Century Edition Ephemeris does not include Declinations, I have provided, in the workbook, the Tables that are needed in this course.
While all students who successfully go through the series of these correspondence courses will receive Certificates of Completion, this certificate is not the same as certification from a professional organization. Your certification test will be monitored and graded by a group of professional astrologers who will not know who you are, and therefore will have no biases that could influence their evaluation of your work. You may, however, list my name as one of your teachers and the name of this correspondence course as a reference.
